world endurance championship
A motorsport series sanctioned by FIA and founded in 2012 as a revival of the defunct World SportsCar Championship. As the name implies, the series is based around endurance racing, with events typically running between 6 to 8 hours.
The iconic 24 Hours of Le Mans, hosted at Circuit de la Sarthe, has been a part of WEC's season since it's foundation.
WEC racecars currently include racing prototypes in two classes - Hypercar, consisting of LMH and LMDh spec vehicles and LMP spec prototypes. GTE-spec sports cars also compete in WEC, but they are set to be replaced by GT3s in 2024.
