window shutter
A window covering, usually wooden, consisting of solid or louvered panels that provide security, protect against weather, and/or control the amount of sunlight that enters a room. Shutters may be mounted on the inside or outside of a window, and they may be fixed or hinged. Some shutters are purely aesthetic in design and may not cover the windows at all.
Contrast with window blinds, which hang freely instead of being set in a frame.
Not to be confused with window shadow, which are shadows created by a window.
