mixed martial arts
Mixed martial arts (MMA), sometimes referred to as cage fighting, is a full-contact combat sport based on striking, grappling and ground fighting, incorporating techniques from various combat sports from around the world.
MMA matches typically take place in an octagonal cage, although some fighting promotions have used boxing or wrestling rings instead. Originally, MMA was intended to pit combatants of different martial arts schools against each other to find the most effective martial art in street fighting. Nowadays, MMA combatants commonly cross-train in multiple martial arts such as judo, Brazilian jiu-jitsu, karate, muay thai, boxing and wrestling among others.
