A meme in "Woodcutter's Pond" (きこりの泉), a manga episode of Doraemon. The titular gadget is a folding pond with a water deity robot. The only difference from the Honest Axe story is that, when the honest man gets a more valuable object, he can't get back his own original item. At the end of the story, Gouda Takeshi accidentally fell into the pond and a handsome figure of himself appeared at the hands of the deity.
In the anime, the deity was voiced by Shou Mayumi (1st series) and Kawamura Maria (2nd series).
