A meme involving a small white cat hitting an instrument while playing a given song.
The meme began in May 2018 when Twitter user @StrayRogue posted an animated GIF of a cat slapping a table. Twitter user @DitzyFlama responded with a video of the cat playing bongo drums to the "Athletic" theme of Super Mario World, hence the name.
In January 2019 a variation of this meme became popular in Japan under the hashtag コンパス式いいねとリツイートをする奴ら ("People Liking and Retweeting #Compass Style"). This version has the cat replaced by a character smashing Twitter's "Retweet" and "Like" buttons. Originally drawn by @genuineneckass, the image set was popularized by images of #Compass characters mimicking the original post. The earliest version known using the hashtag had Ririka as a substitute.
