The performance variant of BMW's 3 Series lineup, sold for every generation since the model's introduction in 1986. The car was primarily sold as a coupe until 2014, with sedan variants available for the E36 and E90 generations. From 2014, the M3 is only sold as a sedan, with the coupe and convertible versions rebranded into the M4.

A heavily modified E46 M3 starred as the cover car in the original Need for Speed: Most Wanted, and is considered the most recognizable vehicle from the series with return appearances in many of the succeeding titles.
