Edit
("Great Phoenix")
The personification of the Japanese aircraft carrier Taihou in Kantai Collection.
Character design by Shimada Fumikane, voiced by Noto Mamiko.
Appearance
She has a medium-length, brown hair with brown eyes and uses a semi-automatic crossbow.
Appearance-wise Taihou is the youngest and smallest of the fleet carrier ship-girls (even younger looking than most of the light carriers) despite the actual ship being somewhat larger than a Shoukaku-class. She appears to be only some 4'11 to 5'2 feet tall and is very petite (and just as flat as RJ). This is because of the historical carrier's somewhat limited hangar capacity and extremely short lifespan; she had only been afloat for just over two months before she was sunk by USS Albacore, and only participated in a single battle, The Battle of the Philippine Sea.
Personality and history
She also has the lowest luck stat in the game (2, 4 remodeled), having historically been destroyed by a single torpedo due to several design flaws and some of the most soberingly awful damage control to ever be put into action: The Albacore's lone torpedo struck the ship's side, just behind the aviation gas storage tanks. These tanks were built too close to now-failed structural elements, and they took stress from ship's weight and fractured, flooding the aircraft elevators with aviation gasoline. The Captain did not want to stop flight operations to dredge out the fuel; assuming that the armored Taihou was resistant enough to shrug off the torpedo, he instead had the elevators sealed with crew member's mattresses and bits of tables. The Captain did not realize that in an enclosed steel ship with no air conditioning sailing through the tropics, the gasoline would quickly warm and turn to vapor - vapor that possesses explosive qualities four times greater than TNT. After an hour, a spark, be it from the idling engines of aircraft, repair torches, the ship's own AA guns, or from the impact of American bullets, ignited the vapor and the ship was bracketed by a monumental explosion that blew the entirety of the flight deck off the ship. She sank two hours later.
Due to the nature of her demise, Taihou is frequently depicted as having to hold in a fart, being extremely embarrassed should they happen to leak out.
Also, due to the fact that her real life counterpart was the second largest aircraft carrier ever built by the Imperial Japanese Navy (after Shinano), yet her in-game persona depicted her with a flat chest, she has also been depicted as a victim of breast envy, especially after Azur Lane released their own depiction of Taihou with large breasts.
