In the United States, pudding characteristically denotes a sweet milk-based dessert similar in consistency to egg-based custards, though it may also refer to other types such as bread and rice pudding.
In Japan, the crème caramel variety is the most common. Packaged varieties are sold throughout Japanese convenience stores under the name purin (プリン), or custard pudding. The Spanish word for this dessert, flan, often leads artists to make visual puns involving Flandre Scarlet.
