An eSports Fighting game tournament held annually in Las Vegas, Nevada, United States. Generally considered the de facto world championship for most fighting games, due to its large turnout.
Notable events that have inspired fanart
- 2004: Evo Moment #37, where during a Street Fighter III: 3rd Strike match between Umehara Daigo and Justin Wong, Umehara fully parries a Chun-Li super performed by Wong with little life left on his Ken, to turn the tables on Wong and win the round. The video of this moment and the wild crowd reaction to it became a viral hit on the Internet and inspires many tributes.
- 2013: The Evo organizers announce 7 games for the event, and announce an 8th game will be decided by a donation drive for cancer research, with the game whose community donates the most money getting the spot at the tournament. The two games raising the most money during the drive are Skullgirls and Super Smash Bros. Melee, with Melee ultimately winning out and getting the spot in the tournament.
- 2014: French player Luffy wins the Ultra Street Fighter IV tournament with Rose, being the first non-Asian player to win an Evo SFIV tournament.
- 2015: During a Guilty Gear Xrd match between Woshige and Ogawa, Woshige celebrates too early after winning a round and his unattended Millia Rage is swiftly beaten by Ogawa's Zato-1 in the decisive round of the match.
- 2018: The first Evo event outside the United States is held in Tokyo, Japan as Evo Japan 2018.
- 2024: In a moment during a Street Fighter III: 3rd Strike Losers Quarterfinals match popularly dubbed "EVO Moment #41", Hugo main Hayao managed to execute an air parry against FrankieBFG's Ken, then narrowly avoiding Ken's spinning kick with a Standing Heavy Kick (which is widely considered the worst nornal move in the game), and proceed to deal match-winning blow while living on the "magic pixel". Another notable moment within the match was when Hayao performed a split while playing the game.
