Blade Runner 2049 is a 2017 American neo-noir science fiction cyberpunk film directed by Denis Villeneuve and written by Hampton Fancher and Michael Green.
A sequel to the 1982 film Blade Runner, the film stars Ryan Gosling and Harrison Ford, with Ana de Armas, Sylvia Hoeks, Robin Wright, Mackenzie Davis, Carla Juri, Lennie James, Dave Bautista and Jared Leto in supporting roles. 2049 was produced by Sir Ridley Scott , the director of the first film.
Three short films have been made to explore events that occur in the 30-year period between Blade Runner and Blade Runner 2049:
- Blade Runner: Black Out 2022 (anime)
- 2036: Nexus Dawn (live action)
- 2048: Nowhere to Run (live action)
Blade Runner 2049 premiered in Los Angeles on October 3, 2017 and was released in the United States and several other countries on October 6, 2017, in 2D, 3D and IMAX. The film received acclaim from critics, with some regarding it as one of the best sequels ever made.
It was released in Japan on October 27, 2017.
